Altria in talks to buy cannabis company Cronos Group

For the longest time tobacco companies just didn’t seem to be able to get in on any of the action in the Cannabis market. As many know marijuana or so-called “pot stocks” are looking great with many people looking to invest and what could be very profitable businesses (or could fizzle out of course).

In any case now with Altria in negotiations with Cronos Group, a major marijuana public company, it could be a way for the Marlboro-maker to profit alongside the cannabis stocks.

Marlboro cigarette maker Altria is in early talks to acquire Canadian cannabis producer Cronos, as it seeks to diversify its business beyond traditional smokers, a person familiar with the matter told CNBC.

  1. This is good if they can all work together because pot is here for the long term and the stocks are looking very good indeed. If BIG TOBACCO can be involved somehow then more the merrier.

  2. Cronos is one of the top pot stocks so the tobacco company will be landing on their feet with this purchase. I would have thought that growing marijuana and cultivating tobacco would have similarities in the farming and agriculture of these two crops,. so why not?
