CenturyLink (CTL) Complaints Over Blocking Internet Access to Advertise in Utah

CenturyLink (CTL) is facing complaints in Utah over how the ISP has been promoting the company’s parental control offerings: It’s been pulling the plug on people’s broadband access until they click through a notification advertising the options.

The pop-up notifications have been pushing Century Link’s security software, which the company says can block online material harmful to children. The only problem is that broadband customers essentially have no choice but to view the intrusive notifications, according to Rich Snapp, a software engineer based in Utah, who documented the blocking in a blog post last week.
